Jeff got an early start in racing, competing in the junior ranks of karting and then gaining experience at the wheel of several different GT and Touring style cars, all before he even had his drivers license. At sixteen, Jeff was not only the youngest ever licensed member to compete in BMW CCA Club Racing, but he also managed to secure a championship title at the wheel of a race-prepared BMW M3 Lightweight.

Following his success at the wheel of the BMW, Jeff seized the opportunity when a ride in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli presented itself in 2003. In his first race, Jeff showed speed and maturity beyond his years while piloting his Ferrari 360 Challenge car to victory, becoming the youngest winner in series history at the age of seventeen.

Recognizing that the Ferrari Challenge Series was far from ideal for a driver seeking to move up the ranks of professional motorsports, Jeff began to seek out other racing opportunities. In the winter of 2004, he was selected as one of only twenty-five young drivers to compete for the inaugural Formula BMW USA Junior Driver Scholarship Shootout in Valencia, Spain. With no prior formula car experience on his resume, Jeff impressed with his ability to adapt to a new car and unfamiliar track against some of the quickest young drivers in the United States, including up-and-comers from prominent racing families like Graham Rahal and Al Unser.

In 2004, Jeff decided to forgo competing in the Formula BMW USA series in favor of a return to GT cars and endurance racing. He signed with the 2003 Grand-Am Rolex Series championship winning team—Scuderia Ferrari of Washington, to contest in the GT-class at the wheel of a Maserati Trofeo Light. However, facing development delays with the car, Segal’s debut was postponed until the later portion of the season and he returned for a brief stint in the Ferrari Challenge to stay sharp, highlighted by setting a track record at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as the support race to the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix. Later in 2004, Jeff made his Rolex GT-class debut at the wheel of a Ferrari 360GT at the Six Hours of The Glen, and then concluded the season by driving the Maserati Trofeo Light to a fifth place finish at Barber Motorsports Park.

Jeff rejoined Scuderia Ferrari of Washington in 2005 to pickup where he left of with the Maserati GT program, this time partnered with the experienced Portuguese standout Joao Barbosa. Although the team again fell victim to development issues that forced a late start to the season, the duo of Segal and Barbosa drove to a 5th place finish at the Six Hours of Mont Tremblant, and ran in 3rd place in the Six Hours of The Glen before a suspension component failure took them out of contention late in the race, and pre-maturely ended the season for the Maserati program.

While the 2005 season fell short of Segal’s expectations, his performances alongside Barbosa in the Maserati got the attention of his fellow competitors in the Grand-Am Rolex Series and he was invited to test for the PTG team, BMW’s North American factory racing operation. Feeling immediately at home in the BMW M3 GT-class machine, Segal was turning times on par with the team’s regular drivers in only a matter of laps.

2006 saw Segal return to racing in the familiar surroundings of a BMW M3, this time as a part of Automatic Racing’s Koni Challenge Series effort. Drawing on his prior experience in BMW racecars, Segal quickly adapted to the action-packed nature of the Koni Challenge Series and came away with 8th place in the championship rankings, on the strength of a pole position at the Mid-Ohio round, and three podiums with a high finish of second place at the season finale Six Hours at VIR. Jeff’s accomplishments were again recognized when he was invited back to test with BMW Team PTG again on two occasions, this time at the wheel of the more powerful American Le Mans Series spec BMW M3 GT2 racecar.

In 2007 Segal again returned to the ultra-competitive KONI Challenge Series at the wheel of an Automatic Racing BMW M3, as well as a partial season in the Rolex Series for the Mazda factory-backed RX-8 GT effort run by SpeedSource Race Engineering. In only his second full year of KONI Challenge competition, Jeff brought home the Driver, Team, and Manufacturers Championships in the Grand Sport class.
